Not everything is for everyone

Books

A Million Little Pieces

James Frey

No idea how anyone ever thought this was a true story.
- 2003
- memoir
Atlas Shrugged

Ayn Rand

Barely finished this, not sure how I was convinced it was worth reading (it is not).
Can't Hurt Me

David Goggins

Novel-length hustle porn
Extinction

Douglas Preston

Interesting premise, but not a fan of the writing style and drags a bit. I enjoyed Hominids more.
- 2024
- Science Fiction
The Game

Neil Strauss
- 2005
- Investigative journalism
The Silent Patient

Alex Michaelides

I have no idea how this has a 4.2 on Goodreads or how I managed to finish it.
- 2019
- Thriller
The Spare Man

Mary Robinette Kowal

Had to force myself to finish this, I don’t know why this was nominated for a Hugo. There are some interesting ideas, but in the end this is a detective story where the main character is an unlikable Space Karen that uses her money to bully everyone around her.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Milan Kundera

Not for me
Where the Crawdads Sing

Delia Owens

I do not get the hype

Movies & TV

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Anyone But You
Apex

Some gorgeous scenery, but the sadism is unpleasant and exhausting
Better Man

The chimp gimmick gets old real quick
Black Adam

Dreadful. I like very few superhero movies, but this may be the worst I’ve seen.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Blue Beetle
Captain America: Brave New World

I don’t know why I even bother to watch these, even on a plane I barely slogged through it.
Gladiator II
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Enjoyed the first two, but not this one.
Happy Gilmore 2

I know I shouldn’t have watched this, but I was morbidly curious.
Hit Man

Didn’t expect much, and still disappointed
Honey Don't!

Neo-noir set in post-COVID California. Has a little of the Coen Brothers feel, but with a disjointed, messy plot and an abrupt ending.
Hundreds of Beavers

Low-budget, cartoonish slapstick inspired by the silent film era. Came highly recommended, but absolutely not for me.
- 2024
- Comedy
I Want Your Sex

Another well-made movie that’s just not for me.
- 2026
- Comedy
If I Had Legs I'd Kick You

A very well-made movie, and Rose Byrne does a fantastic job, but it’s stressful and I never want to watch it again.
- 2025
- Drama
Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic World Rebirth

They just keep on making these, and I keep on watching due to nostalgia and having kids who love dinosaurs. The effects continue to be great, and there’s no lack of acting talent, but the writing is just so poor and repetitive.
Madame Web
Mean Girls

Just watch the original, it’s better in every way.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

Some impressive stunts, but the dialog is just so horrendous and it’s entirely too long
1. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
2. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
My Old Ass
Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie

Came highly recommended, and I thought I’d like it but it just didn’t connect for me. Perhaps if I’d seen the show beforehand?
Nosferatu
Oh. What. Fun.

Good cast completely wasted due to poor writing.
Pizza Movie

Seems I’ve aged out of this type of movie (college drug trip), but I get the appeal
- 2026
- Comedy
Red One
Saturday Night
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Somebody I Used to Know
Spa Weekend

Worse than my already low expectations, couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
- 2026
- Comedy
Superman
The Accountant²

The first was decent. This one I didn’t enjoy.
The Devil Wears Prada 2

Rehashing the original, a bunch of pointless fan service and cameos
The Fantastic 4: First Steps
The Idea of You
The Marvels
The Wrong Girls

If you want a silly stoner comedy, then this completely delivers
You People

Waste of a talented cast
